Apple Photos people detections needs help on dogs, and ways to set death dates so it stops tagging new dogs as dead one!

Indiana Bones died more than a year ago, and I have more than 15000 shots of her
Pepper Pawtts is one year old

So we lost Indiana Bones more than a year ago and got Pepper Pawtts not long after.

And they are both the same color shar pei but honestly look nothing alike! Indiana was a meat mouth and Pepper is a bone mouth!

And I do extensive keywording in Apple Photos, but Apple Photos doesn’t seem to care about that and it insists that Pepper Pawtts is Indiana Bones. And no matter how many times I tell photos that Pepper is not Indiana it adds more Pepper photos to Indiana.

And I can find no way to make my own new Pepper face. You used to be able to tell photos this was a face but now photos is using AI to do it badly, and not all my keywords are even showing up. You have to wait for it to make a category for that dog.

Honestly photos needs birth and death date settings for pets. So it will know the pet or person is dead after a certain date and not to try and tag them after they die!

And you need to be able to select photos and tell Photos this is a new face, not relying on AI that isn’t very good to tag for you!

Literally every day Apple Photos adds hundreds of my photos of Indiana Bones to Pepper Pawtts, but she is dead, and it makes me sad every day. It would be nice if instead of just a, this isn’t Pepper Pawtts, there was an option to say this is Indiana Bones who has her own pet setting.

I hate how Apple takes control away, but replaces it with inferior methods, and they don’t think of things like dog deaths!

Oliver Peters at PVC on the Update Conundrum and his Blackmagic Design Thunderbolt 2 devices not working on Mac OS Sequoia, and yet my Ultrastudio 4K works just fine for me on Sequoia 15.0.1

I commented on the post, as I am running an M2 Mac Studio on Sequoia 15.0.1 and Blackmagic Design Desktop Video 14.2.1 with my UltraStudio 4K and it runs just fine. And I didn’t have to try the terminal hack, it just worked. And I tested it in Adobe Premiere Pro 14.6.3 and it works just as it should. So it isn’t the Thunderbolt 2 adapter not working with a driver, or the latest driver fixed it.

I am so glad it still works too, as I am busy parenting and with a newborn unable to work right now, so I wouldn’t have been unable to replace it for a while.

Sure I am sure apple will figure a way to bypass this, but for now I them some money and will be using it for sure.

Why does Apple sleep alarm move to watch but you can my do the same with other alarms on Apple Watch

Ok so this is something that has bugged me for sometime between the Apple Watch and the iPhone.

If you use the Apple Bedtime and Sleep settings and are wearing your Apple Watch instead of the alarm happening on your phone, your watch will vibrate. Some people hate this, but I love it, as it doesn’t disturb my wife or newborn baby.

The weird thing is there are no controls for this it just happens and you can’t say have the alarm on both your watch and the phone or even just the phone.

Even weirder to me if you set alarms on your phone they don’t alert your watch even if your phone is set to silent (when it should default to vibrating your watch).

Apple really needs to have settings for this and they should be global.

If I have on my watch and have my phone set to silent I should be able to have all alarms go off by vibrating my watch, but there are no controls for this whatsoever. And the only cross alarm that happens is in the sleep/bedtime alarm mentioned earlier.

Since Mac OS Sequoia comes out in a 8 days, check MacRumors to see if your software runs

MacRumors forums macOS Sequoia Working and Non-Working Apps.

Looks like the latest Creative Suite currently works, but DaVinci does not, which is not good. And no word on SoftRaid which is honestly my most important software.

Honestly this is always the best place to check, though I do find that specific video editing software isn’t always the real focus here.

Is it just me or has Alexa become garbage?

For a while Alexa hasn’t worked as well for me as my wife, but lately things have gotten so much worse.

We have 4 Alexa devices in our house, and we use it mostly to play music, set alarms and cooking timers and activate devices with voice control. My wife also makes shopping lists, though they aren’t compatible with shopping list program I use so I don’t it for that.

My issue is how much Alexa actively ignores me, like when a reminder comes on and it just won’t stop (unless I mark it done on my phone).

And even with music attached to my Apple Music account it often can’t find songs, but lately it won’t play songs, or they take a while to start and then only play half way through and stop. This seems to happen about 60% of the time of late. Maybe it is the Apple Music thing, but I don’t pay for Amazon music above my Prime membership.

And Apple music doesn’t explain why I will be talking to one Alexa and ask it to play music and it will play music in another room about 25% of the time. And it isn’t like it can heard me from the other room. I can’t seem to get it to do this with commands myself and it just makes zero sense. Why would it play in another room and not the Alexa that is responding to me?

And I use it to control the light in the Baby’s and I would say that is about 33% successful. It works less than it doesn’t, and I am repeating myself. It is great when it works, but is super frustrating when carrying a screaming baby to get a diaper change.

And then there are the creepy ads that show up all over social media when my wife and I talk about things around Alexa. I fucking hate targeted advertising!

And now they are talking about making a paid tier of Alexa to make it better. Really? Fix what exists first!

Honestly if I could get a bunch of Apple HomePods for cheap enough I would love to replace our Alexa’s! At least Apple places some value on privacy, though I am sure there will have to be new models to deal with Apple Intelligence when that comes out and those will cost more!
