Apple Photos managed to combine my father and my wife in people’s and pets, seriously not an auspicious start for Apple Intelligence!

I have previously written about the problems with Appel Photos new People and Pets and my dogs. It keeps tagging Indiana Bones photos (who is dead) to pictures of Pepper Pawtts over and over again. Super frustrating. It really needs the ability to add deceased and born tags. Or take into account keywords?

Well now I have a new problem that is seriously frustrating. I have been going through People and Pets and getting it all setup with contact info for my closets family and friends. Well as of yesterday it combined my wife and my father.

Now my wife is Kelly Lynn Pancho Walker and my dad is Kelly Deanne Walker. And I had them setu correctly and attached to their individual contacts. And they seriously look nothing alike!

And the best part is going through and telling it that my dad is not my wife doesn’t seem to transfer between devices. Over the past 7 days I have had to do the same thing on my computer, iPad and iPhone, and multiple times on some of the devices. And I keep going back and finding more photos of my dad tagged to my wife! In fact I have gone through my 10,000+ photos of my over 15 times and every time there is at least one photo of my father stuck in there, and usually more like 6-10! WTF!

And unlike old versions of photos where I could tag people myself, now you have to let Photos do it, so I have no way to retag photos of my father as himself! And he doesn’t show up as his own person. Again WTf!

Apple makes things simpler with less control for users, which is fine, at least until they don’t work! And then there is no way to fix anything! And this new feature is not ready for prime time, but knowing Apple I don’t know if it ever will be!

Honestly this is the simplest Apple Intelligence available for all compatible devices and if this is the quality, then I am scared of the quality of Apple Intelligence. This is a bug that should not happen!

Key wording photos has always been time intensive so Apple automatically tagging people is great, but not with mistakes like this.

All I can do now is wait see if my father ever reshows as a possible person, is I can tag him and have his photos show up as himself, but I doubt it will ever happen. Will 10 years from now, will photos of my father keep showing up tagged as my wife? It seems pretty likely!

Apple Photos people detections needs help on dogs, and ways to set death dates so it stops tagging new dogs as dead one!

Indiana Bones died more than a year ago, and I have more than 15000 shots of her
Pepper Pawtts is one year old

So we lost Indiana Bones more than a year ago and got Pepper Pawtts not long after.

And they are both the same color shar pei but honestly look nothing alike! Indiana was a meat mouth and Pepper is a bone mouth!

And I do extensive keywording in Apple Photos, but Apple Photos doesn’t seem to care about that and it insists that Pepper Pawtts is Indiana Bones. And no matter how many times I tell photos that Pepper is not Indiana it adds more Pepper photos to Indiana.

And I can find no way to make my own new Pepper face. You used to be able to tell photos this was a face but now photos is using AI to do it badly, and not all my keywords are even showing up. You have to wait for it to make a category for that dog.

Honestly photos needs birth and death date settings for pets. So it will know the pet or person is dead after a certain date and not to try and tag them after they die!

And you need to be able to select photos and tell Photos this is a new face, not relying on AI that isn’t very good to tag for you!

Literally every day Apple Photos adds hundreds of my photos of Indiana Bones to Pepper Pawtts, but she is dead, and it makes me sad every day. It would be nice if instead of just a, this isn’t Pepper Pawtts, there was an option to say this is Indiana Bones who has her own pet setting.

I hate how Apple takes control away, but replaces it with inferior methods, and they don’t think of things like dog deaths!

Photos for Mac is broken, no way to delete photos that you have imported! FIGURED IT OUT iCLOUD PHOTOS IS BROKEN

I was just importing my photos off of my iPhone into the new Photos for Mac, Photos being the replacement to iPhoto that Apple recently released, and I noticed a major issue.

In iPhoto when you imported your photos you had the option to delete them on import. Well in Photos that option is completely gone. There is only the option to import your photos. Well I just imported 2 gigs of photos, and want to clear up the space off my iPhone. Now I have to what, delete them off my iPhone myself? Well the only way to do that is individually, and this is 300+ photos and videos!

And I thought maybe I missed something and imported the photos again, and it happily imported the same photos and put them into my Photo library right next to the previously imported photos! What is going on here?

I get that the new iCloud features are to keep all your photos forever and safe, but the idea is to keep your full sized photos in the cloud, so you can access them from anywhere, not to never be able to delete your photos from your iPhone. If that is the case people are going to run out of space really fast!

And besides who can afford the iCloud feature? Apple is charging way too much for online space, especially when Amazon lets you store your photos for free!

And the removal of a trash can isn’t a good idea either? What if you accidentally delete a file? (I was wrong about this, there is a way to view Recently deleted photos, just now a menu item instead of a section on the sidebar)

Why has Apple changed to a company that doesn’t give you a choice on how you use your Apple devices, you have to use them how they tell you to and there is no other way (exactly why I don’t like Final Cut Pro X)?

••••

Well I think I figured this out, I had to turn off iCloud Photos on my iPhone, now when I import I get the option to Delete items after Import. So if I was to keep iCloud Photos on, my phone would fill with all my Photos.

So now I had to re-import all my photos again (making duplicates in Photos) with the checkbox checked and now I can have it remove the photos from my iPhone, though this doesn’t seem to work well as it only did about half the photos the first time, and I am having to do the process multiple times to get the photos off my phone, creating duplicates in Photos every time. And now it seems frozen about half way through!

Is this seriously a feature? Being unable to remove photos from my phone? Seriously? This is a joke, if I want to store all my photos in iCloud I don’t want to keep copies on my iPhone or it will completely fill up really fast! This is completely broken! FIX THIS APPLE!

Not only that, but Apple help doesn’t work for me with Photos. So how am I supposed to figure out how this works?
