Juli Clover at MacRumors ran the tests . iOS 26 with reduced transparency and increase contrast on I am quite surprised by the results, but I wonder if it means that the reduce transparency settings are being added on top of the transparency, because it makes no senses that removing the transparency doesn’t increase battery life. It is graphically intense and on my phone constantly glitches and has to redraw. And here is the same glitch I have been getting with transparency with it all turned off. So I think the transparency is being rendered then covered, so that is why it doesn’t save memory by turning it off, even if everything is easier to see with the transparency turned off. And not just switching Liquid Glass to Tinted, but accessibility to Reduce Transparency.

And I can definitely say just how bad it is because my iPad Pro M2 was replaced after screen issues 3 months ago so it has a basically brand new battery, and I had my battery replaced in my iPhone 14 Pro not a month ago (and they exploded my phone so I have a replacement). After upgrading to version 26 I thought it was bad at first, but I have literally such worse battery life than I did with my phone which was down to 80% efficiency on the battery! Without walking and using the GPS my phone is down to 30 percent by 3:47 PM! And this happens every day! And my iPad Pro with almost no use is down to 70 when with the old battery would have been at 96%.. And I am sure half of it is from the awful transparency that makes everything look illegible, and constantly glitches and takes a while to redraw as most things show up transparent. And hopefully 26.1 which will allow you to limit transparency will bring some efficiency back, but likely this is mostly bad coding! My pet peace’s in an OS are making things less efficient (more steps to do the same things),, less legible (say with transparency, and running slower with each OS release! And these OS’s do all of these in spades!
I am a little late posting about this update, as I don’t get much chance to actually sit in front of my computer since I am taking care of my toddler 24-7! But here is Adobe on Premiere Pro 25.5. 90+ Modern realtime effects and transitions! This is so big as Premiere’s transitions have been sorely lacking for some time! In fact so few have been added in ages that this is just huge news! I hope adobe goes out and buys some more effects packages! New Animation Tools is really more from the above, Faster More Precise Editing! Live audio waveforms is another big one as this has been sorely lacking in Premiere and a speciality of DaVinci. Let’s just hope they have fixed all the bugs with waveforms disappearing as this has been a frustration for well over 10 years that they have never dealt with! Listening to editors, improving every cut! Sequence color tabs provide visual indicators for better organization. Improvements to the Effect Controls panel make keyframing more predictable. New preferences for default fonts for text and captions. New keyboard commands to toggle track mute and solo based on targeting. Search for Adobe Stock media from the File menu. New support for 16-bit PNG images to support newer HDR finishing workflows that require high-bit-depth media. Improved data range and color metadata handling for DNxHR, DNxHD, and PNG.Completely rewritten support for MKV. All great and let’s hope it continues! I would love more focus on fixing problems and lesson new features overall. Let’s hope Adobe really is listening’

And I don’t have a laser cutter, though I do have a 3d printer, and am still making stuff for my spaceship. I need to watch more videos from Create Sci-Fi for sure!
If only Apple would work on this issue, and Adobe as well. Sure DaVinci previously could do this with Rec 709a, but rec 709 (scene) should do a better job. https://youtu.be/Fcej7hDihW8?si=Bd_-xBChSs6gbywb And the fact that it does ColorSync and the correct gamma tags is awesome! And if you aren’t subscribed to Chadwick’s Creative Video Tips? What are you doing?
https://www.provideocoalition.com/adobe-premiere-on-iphone-now-available/ Of course you will need to pay for more storage. Being able to transfer to desktop is great, and edit on phone, I still have to try it out.
Andrew Cunningham’s in depth review of Tahoe is a must read, as it always is. I have not moved to Tahoe yet and won’t for a while because they removed FireWire support, and I have so much dv and hdv footage I need to capture first. And I hate Liquid Glass on my iPad and iPhone, so will hate it on Mac. y8
CUt/DAILY #442 (Free Registration Required) is on using multicam and AI to create a trailer or reel for a documentary. Pretty interesting and how this can speed things up and find clips, though also a little scary as this may in the future keep editors from ever viewing all their footage, which I see as a huge mistake! Still speeding up finding clips is always a good thing.
