Surgery Update, “Brain Fog”

So I want to talk more about the post surgery brain fog. I talked to my friend who is a surgeon about it, and he said that yes it should wear off in a year, and that they thing it may even be mico strokes (very scary).I found an entry on it in Wikipedia, Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction. And I for sure have it.Strangely it doesn't seem to affect my ability to edit at all, as long as I take notes (as it seems to be more of a memory thing), I edit just as quickly. And that is a very good thing. In fact it seems to clear up while I have editing to concentrate on!The worst is the end of the day. When I get home from work, and if I want to get anything personal and creative done, I don't have the brain power. And overall my memory recall seems a bit slow. Even on the weekends trying to write or do art, or even play video games seems a mostly futile effort. The other thing I have noticed lately is sweating.I have always been a person who sweats my whole life (likely tied to the hypertrophic I would assume), but lately I have been noticing something interesting, if annoying. While I do sweat while exercising, not super excessively, but as soon as stop my body starts sweating incredibly for a little while, and really have to stop and cool down. This isn't so bad when I am working out, as I can stop and sit in front of a fan to cool down quickly, but right now I am taking the subway for part of my trip to work, which means a walk and lots of stairs, and standing in a very hot subway for 10-15 minutes, and basically by the time I get to work I am drenched in sweat and it takes me a bit to cool down. So I have to bring an extra shirt and a towel to clean up as soon as I get to work. This is annoying, and I hope I not bothering the people I work with! Lots of deodorant is being used, and hopefully helps. As for the soreness, I am still really sore, but it is getting better, or not bothering me as much. I still feel it, especially at the end of the day, but it is improving. And I think it helps that I have been doing some light Kettle bell exercises at least a few times a week (using a 10 pound Kettle bell) after my morning walk.My back is still out, and I can see another trip to the chiropractor soon, though I wish I could get a full adjustment instead of using just the activator.

Surgery Update, and contact from people having this surgery soon

So my dream has come true for my surgery entries, and I have gotten a few e-mails from people having a septal myectomy soon, saying that my blog has helped them out, and wanted to update on my condition and also talk about some of the things they talked about.First off I want to say I am doing great. I have so much more energy. I don't get out of breath at all like I used to all. I still get out of breath, but not nearly as quick. I mean I can walk a 2.1 mile walk near my house, and only get tired because of a huge hill, that makes me stop to take my breath once. Still incredibly better than before my surgery. The thing is, I was in such bad shape before, so of course i still have some exercise issues now, but still I have SO MUCH MORE ENERGY! It is really amazing! And that brings me to my next thing. I had someone write me who is having surgery soon, and is having so much trouble exercising, and the man says he has very similar build to me. Meaning being my height, and weight, with a very big belly, just like I have, as you have seen from all my photos. He asked if he though it was from the condition, and I have to say I absolutely think it is. And unfortunately it isn't like the weight or belly will just melt off, because my body is in so much worse shape than it should be, even with my at least walking every day. I just never had the energy to get my body to be doing well. Heck, I was told I had asthma as a kid and even was given an inhaler, which never worked. Obviously that is because of my condition. And i think my obesity is a lot to do with the condition (though my love of food does not help). Still I hope to lose 50 pounds and hopefully I can now, and will continue to blog about it as I do or don't lose weight. And I want to the people who have contacted me, thank you!!!! I am so glad that my not only could my blog help you (because that was literally the whole point), but thank you for contacting me and asking questions. I love to be able to help people in any way I can, and I love to be able to add more to the this blog about and hopefully help more people in the future! And her is another entry about how i am doing now, and a photo of the scar. The scar is easily not as sore as it was. I have been using not only an anti-scar pen, but also wheat germ pills, which I have punctured with a needle and rubbed on it (advise from my homeopathic chiropractor) and honestly it feels much better. I don't freak out having a shirt…

NVIDIA releases new drivers for Mac

Adobe blogs has the story. If you have experienced crashes in Premiere Pro CS6 or later when using a qualified NVIDIA GPU, we strongly recommend you update to this new driver version, which should improve stability. The crashes were mostly seen when switching from OpenCL to CUDA or when tabbing from other applications back to Premiere Pro (most notably Safari). It doesn't mention all the crashes I was having for other reasons, and general premiere pro instability, but hopefully this will cover it. And hopefully I can move back to my GeForce GTX275 from my Quadro 4800 as the 4800 just isn't fast.Wonder if this improves Kepler card support? That would be awesome, though I doubt it.You can download from NVIDIA here.

Is the new Lightning Adapter USB 3 compatible?

Arstechnica has a good article talking about how the connector for Apple's new Lightning Adapter may be able use the metal shielding as a 9th wire, making for a 9th wire and making Lightning USB 3 compatible. If so it could live up to it's Lightning name.

iPhone 5 first impressions

Still have my iPhone 4, but went to the Apple store to check out the iPhone 5. It sounded great, but not too great, but I was wrong. The first thing you notice is how light it is. It makes the iPhone 4 seem heavy, but it still feels well built and solid. And the mostly metal back is much better than the glass iPhone 4 and 4S. The phone is thinner, and lighter, and taller. The taller screen looks better even at the same resolution. And the bigger screen is just better. Wide screen shows look great and having an extra row of apps on every screen is fantastic. And the lightning connector is impressively small. Still if it is not faster, it sucks to make every previous accessory either incompatible or have to work with an adapter.if all of the speed tests are true, this is a really impressive phone. I so want one! Ha!

Plural Eyes 2 Licensing has Changed

Since RedGiant bought PluralEyes and DualEyes, the licensing has changed, so you need to head over to RedGiant to get a new installer and a new license to make it work again. A pain, but i love RedGiant, so it is OK.

Bare Feats has a DaVinci Resolve Speed Test on Mac

Bare Feats has a great speed test for DaVinci resolve on Mac. What I Find the most interesting is that last generation video cards from MacVidCards are beating out current generation GTX680 Fermi video cards, but that is likely a Mac Driver issue. They have some common drivers for the new cards thanks to the new MacBookPro, but don't have full drivers of yet (still cool that many PC NVIDIA cards will run).

Thoughts on Apple Maps in iOS 6

So there is a lot of controversy and ire on the web over Apple's removal of Google Maps and adding their own map with less functionality. And for the most part I agree. As for Googles Maps application, I liked having street view, and more accuracy, but Google maps on iPhone was dreadfully slow. And no turn by turn directions on iPhone, but yes on Android also sucked. Of course I only have an iPhone 4, so no turn by turn directions for me (though they work for Tom Tom, so why not here). And while I could get them on my iPad, that would require me to have the internet turned on all the time, and I don't have that, as most places I go have WIFI anyway (though I do have the 4G Verizon model). The 3D is rather cool, though takes a while to load. This is where I have been working. Here are the normal directions just like they used to be without turn by turn. The apple Maps app is fast though, and I like the 3D view  (though again can't use it on my iPhone where it might be useful), though it doesn't over much area, but downtown LA looks cool. My biggest problem so far has been inaccuracies in traffic, and it might have to do with crowd sourcing the traffic from other iOS phones, and maybe not many are out at 6 Am when I leave, but I had an extra 30 minutes added to my yesterday travel home time because the traffic report in the app was so wrong. That is unacceptable! And it mostly just shows RED and accidents, no Orange, and the roads are already yellow, so you can't see when it is yellow. I want more date for traffic, faster and more accurate, as being in LA, it is all about traffic! And if maps in inaccurate, it is pretty useless. How can they have bought 2 companies and be using Tom Tom data and have it wrong?UPDATE: Tried using the traffic function again this morning, and in Los Angeles at 6AM, it was totally incorrect. Showing no red on the Freeway where I was, where it should have been solid red, and showing clear where it should have been orange later in my drive. I would rather not have a traffic function than have on that is this bad and this off!

How crappy is Apple’s new Lightning Adapter

So with the iPhone 5 Apple updated and downgraded it's connector to the new lightning connector. The good news is it is smaller, and will work in either direction. The bad news is it is the same speed as the old adapter, sends less data, so many old accessories won't work, and for those that do it requires an adapter at $28 for a direct or $39 for a cable.Youch! Honestly i would rather have had the old adapter still so all my old devices would work. Especially since Apple said they won't make docks for the iPhone 5, and i prefer my iPhone and iPods in docks!
