Happy Holidays, taking next week off
Happy Holidays to you all, I will not be posting for the next week, and likely not too many posts the week after. See you next year!

Head over to No Film School and check out this interview with Commercial Video Editor Lauren Dellara who is cutting on Adobe Premiere Pro.
Always great to see someone cutting something big with Premiere instead of AVID. I have grown to really love Premiere over either AVID or Final Cut Pro so I love seeing it used in commercial settings like this. Especially with Productions, the stability has improved so much.
Now I get that Wacom is a hardware company and needs to keep making money off of me, but I can honestly say my Intuous Pro 4 PTK-540WL was the perfect Pen tablet for me. It is wireless or wired, and my favorite feature are the little LED screens that show what each shortcut button is. I don’t use the tablet all the time as I am a video editor, but when I am doing photoshop I love having the little LED’s to show what the shortcuts are set for, and after the 4 they removed this feature.
They new Medium Wacom Intuos Pro can be had for $299, and it is wireless and has the shortcut buttons, which the Intuos and One models do not have shortcuts buttons, which I have am very used to, and yes they have models down to $79.95, but if it doesn’t have the features I want, is it really worth it, especially when a HUION with 12 buttons and a zoom ring can be had for under $70. Sure it won’t be nearly as good, but at that price. Especially when I could also use my iPad Pro with sidecar.
And the worst part is they have just purposely removed the model from their latest software update, so if you remove everything Wacom and install an older version of the software you can get it to work in Big Sur, though not Monterey. They just removed it from their software. Honestly I would rather have the ability to pay a bit to support my old hardware so they are still making money off me. I mean I paid more to get the Pro wireless model to begin with, but the idea of spending so much money when I can either get a cheaper version from another company that will work fine, or just use my iPad if I need to do Sidecar and actually see what I am drawing, without having the pay to get a Pen Display.
Now WACOM’s are the best, I just think they are pricing themselves out of the market, especially when I can use the iPad Pro I already have.
Now I saw this twitter thread thanks to Scott Simmons at ProVideoCoalition and this post.
And here is Jan Kaiser’s eskocz channel on YouTube.
Now you need to look at the thread and see more than just the first post.
Wow, I am blown away that the depth map is only 320×180, and only works so close up.
I was also wondering why the Pro didn’t use Lidar to enhance the depth map, but while it shows allot more depth than the cinematic mode, it is also fluttery and noisy, so I can see that it would cause some serious issues in a depth map.
And the true depth on the front camera would be useless for a depth map.
Between the 1080 30p and low resolution depth map I think I am OK with skipping the iPhone 13 and seeing what the 14 will offer. The technology is impressive, but I want to see future generations.
I have posted about Editingtools.io before, but he has a bunch of other stuff that is a must read. And I may post another post about Jan Kaiser’s iPhone Cinematic Mode info.
The Rocket Yard, the OWC Blog and Steve Sande has it’s top 20 tips for MacOS Montery. Worth a gander for sure.
I would love to upgrade to Monterey, but so far I have heard only that Adobe Video versions 2021 and 2022 work with it, and the head editor at the company I am working at is still working with 2019. I was actually surprised that 2019 still worked on Big Sur, but it d\id, but I only upgraded to Big Sur very recently.
And it is usually always safer to wait for the .1 released, though it sounds like Monterey is doing pretty well so far, with a few niggles because of it’s built in VPN that screws with some programs.
I have to admit I haven’t been watching the Beta forum or the beta features recently (busy on edit jobs, and not even using 2022, actually the lead editor refuses to move above 2019) but I just saw this at the Beta Forum at Adobe User Voice.
So all Premiere Pro & AE Mogrts will show up in the Graphics tab, and you can use spell check and Search and replace, which is huge! Wow, this is super powerful.
And you can focus on specific tracks, so if you organize like you should…
Now you can double click to CHANGE ANY TEXT!
And Spell Check in 2 places!
My only problem is that I have had issues sharing Mogrts with people, especially when not on the same Adobe Account or sending it manually. but for built in Premiere Graphics this is amazing.
I have wanted a spell checker forever, now we need one After Effects!
And if the other feature this could really use, would be a batch change for graphics styles. I would so love to be able to select multiple text instances and change the style on them all.
This is so disappointing as to really use this footage you will need to decompress it to a constant frame rate. especially disappointing since the footage already takes up much more space and need to re compress it to really use it properly to get it constant frame rate. And you will be losing a generation in compression (I know ProRes can handle it better than HEVC but still).
