Got an e-mail from Maxon, and Red Giant’s PluralEyes is to Enter Limited Maintenance Mode

Got this in an e-mail from Maxon, that basically PluralEyes from Maxon, formerly Red Giant is no longer being developed.

Now this was a revolutionary program that would sync your audio to video (if it had reference audio) and was the first of it’s kind. Now that it is going, every NLE has Waveform audio syncing built in, so it hasn’t been necessary for years. But it is still a little sad to see it go.

Still lets hope that this means Maxon has more time to develop new tools for it’s Plug In suits.

Maxon One Fall Update, includes all Red Giant Products

Maxon One Fall Update has arrived and includes updates for almost everything.

About Red Giant

The new version of Red Giant includes updates for nearly every tool and over 100 new presets for Generators and shiny text effects.

Trapcode

Trapcode provides over 75 new animated sprites for 2D shapes and bursts. The loading time for the Particular Designer has been dramatically improved

Magic Bullet

Magic Bullet 2023 adds the recently released Halation and Diffusion tools to Looks in Cinema 4D. Improved Looks C4D workflow in OCIO mode. Major improvements to the Looks integration in Unreal Engine 5. Denoiser is now available for Final Cut Pro and compatible with Apple M1 machines.

VFX

Red Giant VFX 2023 offers enhanced performance and stability. Bug fixes for Supercomp, Primatte, Real Lens Flares and more.

Universe

Universe 2023 provides added support for alpha layers in Avid Media Composer. Generate text effects, track mattes and more. Universe 2023 comes with over 100 new presets for Generators.

Red Giant Updates for NAB 2022

Red Giant has updated Universe to version 6.

VFX Suite 3

Magic Bullet Suite 16.

And a new tool Real Lens Flares.

In past Red Giant has also released in depth videos showing off how to use the new features, but unfortunately it looks like they haven’t done that this year. Hopefully this isn’t how things will always be with the now Maxon owned company, bug I have the feeling it is. I guess will just have to play around.

The video for Real Lens Flares looks good, but will have to see if it is better than optical flares from Video Copilot.

PVC on Maxon Updating Red Giant Universe with M1 Support

PVC on the Maxon formerly Red Giant Universe Plug-ins having been updated to 5.1 with M1 Support and having replaced JavaScript with C++ for a more powerful and better Code Base.

I have used Red Giant Universe for years and think their whole suite is a must have. I use them literally on every project. I still wish Maxon still allowed you to have an installation on Laptop and Desktop, and even worse the Application Manager now signs out at least once a week, leaving renders with X’s in Premiere all the time. Honestly it was better when owned by Red Giant alone, but I still use the plug-ins all the time.

Maxon has released updates to a bunch of it’s applications and plug-ins

Maxon has updated most of it’s apps, Cinema 4D to 25, Redshift, Trapcode to 17, he VFX Suite to 2 and included new plug-in Bang!, Magic Bullet to 15 and Universe to 5.

Trapcode 17 is updated.

Features the long-requested ability to work with Particular and Form in the same 3D space by bringing Form behaviors to Particular. The release also sees upgrades to the Flocking simulation with the addition of On Predator/Prey Contact and Team designations as well as improvements to system organizational capabilities in the Designer. Form also includes many quality-of-life updates and all Trapcode tools now support Adobe’s multi-frame rendering.

VFX and Bang!

Includes the newly acquired Bang plugin, a fully procedural 3D muzzle flare generator that enables the quick and easy addition of muzzle flashes to your footage. Bang gives full creative control over the look of muzzle flares, including position, shape, color, decay and duration. Recent enhancements include more realistic Glows, Heat Blurs and Age Control refinements. VFX 2 also introduces compatibility with Apple’s Metal Graphics API for Primatte Keyer for optimal performance on supported systems.

Magic Bullet 15

Incorporates compatibility and optimization for Apple Silicon-powered Macs, as well as support for Multi-Frame Rendering (MFR) in Adobe After Effects. In addition, Cosmo, Mojo, Film, Renoiser now take advantage of Apple’s Metal Graphics API for optimal GPU performance on Mac.

Both Magic Bullet and Universe 5

now support Multi-Frame Rendering (MFR) in Adobe After Effects. *Denoiser has not been updated in this release.

Cinema 4D Release 25

The most intuitive 3D application interface just got even better with a new modern skin, user interface enhancements and an expansive preset system for optimizing your workflow. All-new Spline Import options allow users to easily use Illustrator, PDF and SVG vector artwork in their 3D scenes. Capsules allow anyone to tap into the power and flexibility of Cinema 4D’s Scene Node system, with plug-in-like features directly in the Classic Object Manager. And the New Spline and Data Integration functionality can be used to build powerful Capsule Assets.

Redshift RT (public beta)

A new rendering mode that provides near real-time rendering performance while using the same shaders, lights, and efficiently co-existing with the standard Redshift render engine in the same DCC and scene. Perfect for artists to use during the development process of a project or even final render if the project does not need the same amount of fidelity as standard Redshift.

II have been using Red Giant for years, still hate that you only get 1 install vs 2 you had before Maxon bought them, but there suite is still something I use almost every day.

Film Editing Pro on Multicams or Merge Clips in Premiere Pro

Film Editing Pro has an good article on using Multicams vs Merge Clips in Premiere Pro.

Now like Sofi Marshall I do like Merge clips, but just wish Adobe would fix them, getting rid of meta data and not being able to go back to original clips without exporting an xml and re-importing (and the fact that this works shows that Merge clips still has the data somewhere). And I don’t like single angle clips to be multicam, but they are right that as it is now Multi-cam is slightly superior.

Still might just switch back to using Red Giant (or should I say Maxon) Plural eyes and sequences unless Adobe does something about Merge clips.

Maxon Updates Universe to 4.0

Maxon has updated Universe (formerly Red Giant Universe) to 4.0. Universe is a set of Transition and effects plugs ins for editors and motion graphics artists, and is red giants fast rendering transitions.

The suite has 3 new plug ins, Electrify to add electrical effects, Analog to add the look of Analog video, and Texturize Motion which adds animated textures to your footage for a sketchy stop motion look. They have also included 100+ presets for the new effects and 140 new presets for Array Gun and Typographic.

Universe is available as a subscription for $199 a year, or as part of Red Giant Complete for $599.99 annually or Maxon one with all their products for $1199 a year or you can pay a monthly for $30, $79 or $149.

Personally I have used the Red Giant plug ins for many many years, and they have many of my go to effects. They are also fast and work across editing software for the most part. It is a big expense every year, but I find it very worth it for the suite of tools. And honestly if I could afford it would love to add Cinema 4D to the mix.

Red Giant has killed it’s shooter suite except PluralEyes as of September 8th, 2020

So Red Giant has killed it’s Shooter suite except for PluralEyes as of September 8th. I always hate seeing tools go, and i will miss having Offload for sure for shooting. It might not have been the best tool but it worked and I already owned it. And I did use Instant 4K as well.

Lets hope they add some other good tools to Red Giant now that they have less tools to worry about.

Red Giant has updated to Universe to 3.3 with 2 new tools 4 updates

Red Giant has updated it’s Universe Plugs ins to version 3.3 with 2 new tools and 4 updates plugs ins.

The new Tools are:

  • Quantum: a tool that creates the illusion of an animated light trail in front of or behind a layer. Great for text and motion graphics
  • Modes: a tool that makes it easy to combine layers in entirely new ways using powerful features that go beyond the native blend modes found on your editing timeline.

 And the Updates are:

  • Glow: Now offers Inverse-square glow falloff, multi-pass chromatic aberration and the ability to glow a single color channel.
  • Glimmer: This update gives you 6 mono or bi-directional glow streaks with variable intensity and color mapping, an animatable shimmer, variable rotation control, and Color maps aligned with Trapcode’s Starglow.
  • Chromatic Aberration: This tool now includes control over the focus area, the ability to split the aberration into multiple passes, and chromatic rotation.
  • Hacker Text: The addition of customizable random characters and the ability to auto-animate the encryption and decryption.

Always excited for new Universe tools as I have a lifetime on them, and they are always very fast with GPU support.

Have to play with Modes, though Modes themselves exist in Premiere, so it will be much more amazing in AVID which doesn’t have layer modes for compositing.
