Wacom has EOLed my Intuos Pro 4 and it makes question staying with Wacom

Now I get that Wacom is a hardware company and needs to keep making money off of me, but I can honestly say my Intuous Pro 4 PTK-540WL was the perfect Pen tablet for me. It is wireless or wired, and my favorite feature are the little LED screens that show what each shortcut button is. I don’t use the tablet all the time as I am a video editor, but when I am doing photoshop I love having the little LED’s to show what the shortcuts are set for, and after the 4 they removed this feature.

They new Medium Wacom Intuos Pro can be had for $299, and it is wireless and has the shortcut buttons, which the Intuos and One models do not have shortcuts buttons, which I have am very used to, and yes they have models down to $79.95, but if it doesn’t have the features I want, is it really worth it, especially when a HUION with 12 buttons and a zoom ring can be had for under $70. Sure it won’t be nearly as good, but at that price. Especially when I could also use my iPad Pro with sidecar.

And the worst part is they have just purposely removed the model from their latest software update, so if you remove everything Wacom and install an older version of the software you can get it to work in Big Sur, though not Monterey. They just removed it from their software. Honestly I would rather have the ability to pay a bit to support my old hardware so they are still making money off me. I mean I paid more to get the Pro wireless model to begin with, but the idea of spending so much money when I can either get a cheaper version from another company that will work fine, or just use my iPad if I need to do Sidecar and actually see what I am drawing, without having the pay to get a Pen Display.

Now WACOM’s are the best, I just think they are pricing themselves out of the market, especially when I can use the iPad Pro I already have.

Sidecard for MacOS Catalina has to have Wacom scared as all hell!

This has been rumored, but to see it in action, wow. So with Mac OS Catalina, you can use a feature called sidecar, and have your iPad extend your Mac Screen and use the Apple Pencil. Goodbye Wacom tablet, you can now use the Apple Pencil and iPad to draw right on images!

Wow, I really can’t wait for this! This is a game changer for Photoshop!

Wacom announces Cintiq Companion 2: UPDATED

I am a devoted iPad user, but the Cintiq companion is the one thing that could make me carry a different touch based computer. And Wacom has finally announced that it’s version 2 is coming out.

There are two versions, the Windows 8 Companion and the Android Hybrid, both of which work as a Cintiq Wacom table when attached to a Mac or PC.

There are 4 Windows 8 Models from $1299 to $2499, and 2 Android models from $1049 to $1199.

Of course the Windows Versions let you run full Photoshop or run as a Cintiq, while the Hybrid is an Android tablet that is also a Cintiq. So you can do much more on the go full work on the Windows model, but the Hybrid would certainly give an iPad a run for it’s money.

I love the touch computing on an iPad, but for artwork a Pen is always superior, and a Wacom pen has always been the best for tablet computing.

I have always wanted a Cintiq, but this would really be even better as you could take it with you as a tablet (though you would need some spare cables to carry with you and one set to leave at home for your home computer!).

AWESOME, I SO WANT ONE!!

Wacom adds 2 Cloud Services

Wacom has added 2 new Cloud Services. Dropzone which allows copy & paste between devices on Mac, Windows and iOS after installing the Dropxone app (which works with Bamboo Paper on iOS). And Control Room which allows you to sync your Wacom settings with the Cloud, and have your settings wherever you are (given you have the same Wacom devices in each place).

Pretty cool, and smart, but you still need to install the software one each computer to get your settings. Hopefully this will be built in with the Wacom drivers in the future (with the ability to turn it off or on).

Wacom releases the Cintiq 13HD

Cintiq

Wacom has released the Cintiq 13HD.It is $999. I has a 1920×1080 display that runs off of hdmi and usb, and has a resolution of 5080 lines per inch.

I would so love one of these, but they are just too expensive. I do love the rumor of a Wacom tablet though, as having a portable tablet that is also a Cintiq sounds amazing!

A Wacom Tablet?

Engadget is saying that Wacom is hinting at a mobile tablet in the near future. If this could be a combination Cintiq for your home computer, this could be amazing. I have always wanted a Cintiq, but could never afford one, though I have used Wacom tablets for years and years. Even a table that can use a pen would be so much better for art than using your finger, and a full Wacom would be even better.

I hope this happens and at a fairly reasonable price, as this could be huge!
