What’s New In After Effects
It looks like this one is mostly focused on 3D features. Which is great, as I hope the 3D gets better and better.
And 33 new Animation Presets.
And like Premiere we get the more contextual Properties Panel.

Maxon has posted this excellent tutorial on Red Giant Geo, which is great since the defactor standard Video Copilot Element is really getting long in the tooth, so it is good to have a new plug in for 3D that is so poweful.

This is pretty amazing, and will be such a huge bonus from AI, and will help with the uncanny valley.
You can read all about all the new features of Blender 4.0 at their web site.
It is amazing that this open source software keeps getting better and better, and it even gets used on features and for high end because it is that powerful of a tool. I just wish their was something like this for video editing.

Here is ZoeDepth online.
This is really so cool! I would love to see a version of this that can run locally on your computer. It isn’t magic, but this really is amazing. You can give some real depth to a still photo, which really gives done zing to your stills!
And the new rage is motion stills, so this is very cool. And this should allow something different than straight cutouts of layers.
I can’t wait until there is a version of this you can run on your own computer, just can’t trust a web site for production timelines. Lets hope this becomes a plugin, or is integrated into After Effects!
This is amazing!
I was watching a video with some VFX guys talking about working on their videos and they talked about this plug-in for After Effects, and was thoroughly impressed. Now it is subscription based, so you will likely only get it when you need it.
Very interesting, I still love 3D, even without the ability to see 3D at home, and a wife who gets violently ill from 3D. Can’t wait until they get 3D without glasses, especially for a glasses wearer!
Robert K. Baggs at Fstoppers has a report that Adobe is removing all 3D features from Photoshop.
I guess this was inevitable with Adobe creating a second revenue stream for it’s 3D apps, but it is complete horseshit. Removing features that we have had for years so Adobe can make more money is beyond crap. Adobe should include everything in it’s one subscription.
Adobe just announced the new Adobe Substance 3D Tools, though for those excited to try them out, they are not included in Creative Cloud, and are instead a separate subscription. Can you say, WTF!
You get Substance 3D Stager to put models together, material and light a 3D scene to produce virtual photographs and renderings, which sounds like a high end version of Adobe Dimension (which is in Creative Cloud).
You get Substance 3D Painter to paint textures and materials on a 3D Object.
Substance 3D Sampler to create materials and textures with a photo.
And Substance 3D Designer to create your own textures, materials and models.
There is also a Substance 3D Asset Library and a private Beta of Substance 3D Modeler.
I know companies love there subscriptions, and that 3D programs are getting really high subscription prices, but this should have been included in Creative Cloud. Of course I also think it should be more than creating stills as 3D motion product shots would be amazing to be able to make quickly and well.
