Creative Cow on VFX Industry Crossroads

Creative Cow has a great article by Debra Kaufman on the crossroads of a Visual Effects Industry in Crisis. Well worth checking out. And a scary look inside the industry.

The whole flat bidding thing is the scariest thing, as jobs always get bigger and have more changes and if you don’t get overages eventually the expenses will kill a company and that is why so many are moving overseas where the labor is cheaper.

And it is not like Rythym and Hues is the first, this will continue, as it may prove too expensive to run an FX company in the current model. Maybe the studios just need to make their own companies on a per movie basis, though I don’t see that saving money either, as they will have to pay their own people!

LFiHD on Switching Video Output in Premiere Pro with an AJA

Little Frog in High Def has an article on getting output of an AJA to work with 23.976 footage playing out to 29.97. The disturbing part is that he doesn’t think that Black Magic has this option right now, so black magic won’t play out 24P footage to a monitor that only supports 29.97 like Final Cut Pro will do. I will keep on this and see if this is true. If so they really need to fix this and fast!

Biscardi on editing for now

Walter Biscardi has a good post on editing for now, and or now that is AVID. And Premiere CS6 will be or some things as it is getting better, and Smoke will be tested and he is giving the ideas for their next version, both will possibly be implemented for him in 2013. For me it looks like AVID will be part of it, but I am hoping that CS6 is really a good replacement for Final Cut Pro 7.

Maximum PC on NVIDIA Tease

Maximum PC has an article on a recent NVIDIA tease on Facebook, saying It’s Coming!

Swedish overclocking site SweClockers.com (as translated and explained by VideoCardz.com) says that “independent sources” claim that “it” is the GeForce GTX 690, the long-rumored video card that theoretically sports two, count ’em, two of the GK104 Kepler GPUs found in the GTX 680, 4GB of GDDR5 memory, 3072 CUDA cores and a pair of 8-pin connectors. That, kiddies, would be one heck of a polygon-pumping beast.

Now this may be a gaming card, but 3072 CUDA cores would be a beast for Premiere Pro! Makes me want a PC for editing!
