Rich Young from PVC’s September After Effects Roundup
As always, a must read!
As always, a must read!
Adobe’s December 3rd, 2024 update December 2024 (25.1) is out. Check out the new features.
Rounded Corner Design for timeline clips, which is neither here nor there, though can be annoying for key frames.
Enhanced H.264 performance on Apple Ailicon and Windows: Upnto 4x increase in performance on Apple Silicon and 2x performance on Windows! Always welcome! Personally I tend to recomoress H.264 to ProRES for performance, but that isn’t possible with many online working methods, so this is certainly welcome.
And these fixes:

TEXT-BASED EDITING
I have to try this out, and I didn’t know you can do 2 seconds of video and 10 seconds of audio.
Weird that it is put in the scratch disc folder, instead of next to the original clip for easier media management.
I am scared for but also excited by adobe AI. Of course hands on has not been as impressive as the Adobe Demos.
This is so amazing! Being able to draw and move simple items or even a camera to create Adobe Firefly AI images. This is the control that Firefly truly needs.
This would be impressive if it just did the compositing, but the relighting is absolutely amazing! I mean changing shadows on an image, OMG!
This is huge and going to be a major game changer, so Adobe you had better put this into Premiere ASAP. Not only text to audio, but being able to record a scratch track for timing!
Honestly as a commercial and direct response editor I have seen less and less put into audio. I used to at least have a mixer to do an nice mix, but especially since the pandemic I have also had to do a mix (and while audio is not my thing I have become much better at it) but being able to add sound like this so quickly will certainly bring projects to another level.
As always a must read even if I am a little behind.
We shall see. Some applications I am excited about, like fixing stuff in shots or extending stuff, but the completely generative stuff is certainly a bit scary. I am sure some commercials will just be done with generative stuff, and that will likely take some work away from editors like me.
